A Palestinian, Ahmad Manasra, has been released on Thursday after spending more than nine years in prison.

Manasra was arrested at age 13 for allegedly taking part in a stabbing attack.

During his time in prison, the now 23-year-old developed severe mental health issues. However, requests for his early release were repeatedly denied.

Manasra is however now free after completing his nine-and-a-half-year term, according to his lawyer Khaled Zabarqa.

He was sentenced for being with his cousin Hassan Manasra, who stabbed two Israelis near Pisgat Ze’ev in East Jerusalem in 2015.

Hassan, who was 15 years at the time, was shot dead by an Israeli man.

But Ahmad was seriously beaten and then run over by an Israeli driver. After the incident, he suffered fractures to his skull and internal bleeding.

A graphic video of Ahmad lying in the street, bleeding from the head while being taunted by Israelis, garnered millions of views at the time.

Ahmad was charged with attempted murder even though he did not stab anyone – something that the courts had acknowledged.
