THE parents of a schoolgirl have been left horrified as a strange man in a car approached their daughter.

It has been claimed, the man spoke to the child and tried to force her into the car.

The attack took place on Musbury Road, Axminster, Devon, near Axe Vale Academy on Tuesday, March 25.

Following the event, Axe Vale Academy has urged parents to speak to their children about being cautious in the community.

A letter sent to parents, seen by Devon Live, read: “Dear parents, I wanted to make you aware of a serious incident that has taken place.

“A female student has been approached on Musbury Road in Axminster by a male driving a black car.

“The male has allegedly spoken to the child with the intention of getting them into their vehicle.

“I would like to reassure you that this has been immediately reported to the police who I know will do their utmost to support the child, her family and the community to keep them safe.

“For now, please speak to your children about being vigilant in the community.

“Please remind them to walk with friends, contact parents for lifts and to call 999 if they feel they are in immediate danger.

“These messages will be re-iterated in school in the coming days.

“If your child is worried, please direct them to their tutors who will refer to the pastoral and safeguarding team if necessary.

“If, as a parent, you are concerned then please contact me or Mr Crocker via email.”
