PELE is showing improvement in his battle with colon cancer, a medical report released today has revealed.

The Brazilian, 82, has been in hospital since November 29 being treated for the disease.

Following his arrival at Sao Paulo’s Albert Einstein Hospital, Pele was also diagnosed with a respiratory infection.

A statement released by the hospital today read: “The patient continues to show improvement in the clinical status, in particular the respiratory infection.

“He remains in a regular room, is conscious and with stable vital signs.”;

It is still unclear as to when Pele will be able to go home.

Earlier this month, the three-time World Cup winner sought to reassure concerned fans regarding his wellbeing.

He wrote on social media: “Friends, I am at the hospital making my monthly visit.”;

A note from the hospital, released to the Brazilian press, later confirmed: “After medical evaluation, the patient was taken to a common room, without the need for hospitalisation in a semi-intensive unit or ICU.

“The former player has full control of vital functions and stable clinical condition.”;

Brazil stars offered their support for Pele after their 4-1 victory over South Korea at the World Cup.

They held a banner with his name on, having been wished good luck before the match.

A post from Pele’s Twitter account read: “In 1958, I walked the streets thinking about fulfilling the promise I made to my father.

“I know that today many have made similar promises and are also going in search of their first World Cup.

“I will watch the game from the hospital and I will be rooting for each one of you. Good luck!”;
