As TikTok users might’ve heard by now, a new reality series following the members of the Hype House is coming to Netflix, news which was met with divisive reactions. In case you have no idea what I’m talking about, the Hype House is a group of influencers who for the most part became famous from the social media app TikTok. They all live together in a mansion to make videos together, and are actually extremely successful. (Yes, I feel old too).
As we previously reported, the Hype House reality show is set to follow the likes of Nikita Dragun, Chase Hudson, Thomas Petrou, Larri Merritt, and other prominent social media influencers. Covering their day-to-day lives at the house, fans will get a close glimpse at how they create TikToks and navigate fame.
What is the Hype House show about?
Here’s what Deadline reports on the show’s plot synopsis:
It will take viewers inside the group’s communal mansion in Los Angeles, offering an exclusive, fly-on-the-wall look into the glamorous, stressful and high-speed personal and professional antics of the young stars, as they live together and collaborate daily on new content.
The reality show does not yet have a release date, and it seems many people are trying to make sure it never happens.
Is the Hype House show canceled?
A petition on Change.org was created recently with a goal to get the Hype House show canceled. With over 13,700 signatures at the time of this article and counting, it’s obvious there’s strong opposition to this reality show coming to Netflix. It’s no secret TikTok stars are often criticized for the way they rose to fame, and this petition also calls to the fact that the streaming service has given the ax to many good shows with solid followings.
The petition references canceled Netflix shows such as The OA, Anne with an E, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and others, all of which caused outrage from fans when they heard they would be getting the boot.
Check out the petition here.
Currently, there has been no news about the Hype House show actually being canceled. Given the high number of views it will likely see, Netflix has no reason to move on from it. Despite many people’s displeasure with this series being produced, there is an audience for it. I for one will not be watching it, but I’m happy for anyone who’s excited to check it out!
Stay tuned for the official Hype House show release date.
