A petroleum tanker carrying about 45,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, also known as petrol, has overturned in Oyo State.

DAILY POST gathered that the incident occurred at Offa-Metta along the Oyo-Ogbomoso expressway.

The accident took place around 9 am on Saturday.

According to eyewitnesses, the IVECO trailer tanker, with registration number Jigawa GMN 413 XA and a capacity of 45,000 litres of Automotive Gas Oil, AGO, swerved off the road and overturned.

The General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed the incident when contacted.

In a statement made available to DAILY POST on Saturday evening, Akinyinka said that firefighters were immediately mobilised to the scene upon being alerted.

He said: “The accident was reported at exactly 9:38 am on Saturday, 29th March 2025, via a mobile telephone call regarding a trailer tanker accident at the above location.

“A crew of firemen, led by ACFS Tijani Bamidele, was promptly deployed to the scene. On arrival, we found an IVECO trailer tanker with registration number Jigawa – GMN 413 XA, loaded with 45,000 litres of AGO, which had swerved off the road, causing the tank to detach from the truck head.

“We swiftly took all necessary measures, using foam chemical compound to prevent a possible fire outbreak, and remained on standby for some time.”
