Plateau killings: Protest rocks Jos, residents demand end to bloodshed

Published on April 21, 2025 at 11:28 AM

Jos, the capital of Plateau State, was on Monday rocked by protests over the unending killings in parts of the state by suspected Fulani militants.

The protest was led by the Plateau State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Rev. Polycarp Lubo, and other Christian leaders.

The protesters who carried placards with various inscriptions, converged at the Fawvwei Junction community road, causing a heavy gridlock which left commuters stranded.

They insisted that government must intervene to end violence against indigenes in the state.

The protest is in the aftermath of a visit to Plateau by the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru and the service chiefs last week.

The minister had during the visit assured of imminent end to the violence in the state.

DAILY POST reports that the attacks are concentrated in Bokkos and Bassa LGAs, with over 100 persons killed in last two weeks.

A community leader who identified himself as Gyang Dalyop said: “We are not happy over the continuous attacks and killings by gunmen in our communities. That’s why we have come out again to protest these happenings.”

The protesters were seen moving towards the Government House to register their grievances with Governor Caleb Muftwang.
