The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested 13 suspects in connection with the alleged gang rape, abortion, and subsequent death of an 18-year-old girl in Misau town, Misau Local Government Area of the state.
This was disclosed in a statement on Thursday by the Spokesman of the Command, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil.
According to the statement, the incident came to light on April 4, 2025, following credible intelligence that two suspects â Usman Umar, 22, of Fawari area, and Sallau Ayuba, 21, of Lariski area â lured the young girl and had repeated sexual encounters with her over a period of time.
The meetings took place at various locations, including Mahmood Lodge in Misau.
When the suspects discovered the girl was pregnant, they reportedly contacted Abubakar Mohammed, 35, a second-year student of A.D. Rufai College for Islamic and Legal Studies, to help terminate the pregnancy.
He was allegedly paid N40,000 to carry out the abortion.
Wakil said, “After administering an injection to induce abortion, the girl lost consciousness and became critically ill. Her family rushed her to General Hospital, Misau, and she was later referred to the Federal Medical Centre, Azare, where she was confirmed dead during treatment.”;
Following the incident, police investigations led to the arrest of the three primary suspects, who confessed to the crime.
Further interrogation revealed the involvement of 10 other individuals.
The additional suspects include Alkali Kawu, Maule Mai Ride, Mai Tomatoes, Danguli, Yakubu, and Kura â a civil servant â as well as four others currently under investigation at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Misau.
CSP Wakil emphasized that the Command remains committed to ensuring justice is served.
He added that the suspects would be thoroughly profiled and charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
