Published on April 19, 2025 at 03:11 PM

A suspected armed robber was shot dead, and a Beretta pistol with three live rounds recovered following a gun battle with police operatives in the Kamba District of Dandi Local Government Area, Kebbi State.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, April 19, when four armed men reportedly blocked Marina Road in an attempt to rob commuters.

Spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police Command, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, said in a statement that the Divisional Police Officer in Kamba led a joint team of police personnel and local hunters to the scene after receiving a distress call.

“On sighting the security team, the hoodlums opened fire, prompting a shootout. One of the suspects was neutralised, while the others fled into the forest with suspected gunshot wounds,” Abubakar said.

He added that a Beretta pistol loaded with three live rounds of ammunition was recovered from the scene.

Reacting to the incident, the state Commissioner of Police, Bello M. Sani, hailed the swift response of the officers and local hunters.

He described the operation as a significant stride in the command's fight against banditry and violent crimes.

Sani also thanked members of the public for their timely reports and urged residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting security efforts.

He said a manhunt was underway to track down the fleeing suspects and recover more weapons.

“The command remains committed to sustaining its onslaught against banditry and all forms of criminality to ensure the safety and security of all citizens,”; he stated.
