Police nab infamous bandit, Abu Dankano, rescue kidnap victim in Katsina

Published on April 06, 2025 at 06:47 PM

In a significant breakthrough, the Katsina State Police Command has arrested a notorious armed bandit and suspected kidnap kingpin, Abubakar Umar, widely known as Abu Dankano.

Sources told Zagazola Makama that the arrest, which occurred on March 29, 2025, followed a report from the family of 25-year-old Badamasi Isiyaka, who was abducted on March 1.

Just two days after the kidnapping, the abductors contacted the victim’s family, demanding a ransom of thirty million Naira for his release.

Acting swiftly, police detectives launched a tactical operation that led to the capture of 26-year-old Umar, a resident of the crime-infested Shimfida Forest in Jibia LGA.

During interrogation, Umar confessed to orchestrating the kidnapping and disclosed links with several infamous bandit leaders, including Bello Turji, Dankarami, Na-Mardiyya, and Black.

The victim was successfully rescued unharmed, and police say efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest other gang members involved in the crime.
