Pope Francis’ coffin arrives Santa Maria Maggiore for burial

Late Pope Francis' casket has arrived the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome for burial.

Pope Francis' corpse was moved to Santa Maria Maggiore after a funeral service at the Vatican.

His corpse departed the Vatican on a white popemobile following the funeral mass at St Peter’s Square on Saturday.

Thousands of mourners lined the route as the popemobile carrying the coffin of the Argentine was driven to his final resting place.

The Argentine died on Monday at the age of 88 after occupying the papacy for 12 years.

He died of stroke, coma, and a heart failure.
