Published on April 03, 2025 at 02:31 PM

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa has advised Speakers and members of state Houses of Assembly across the country to prioritise the interest of their people.

Obasa made the call while receiving the leadership of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria led by the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Edward Ogundoyin who paid him a solidarity visit.

Obasa while addressing the gathering urged lawmakers across the country to continue to legislate for good governance in their respective states.

In a statement made available to DAILY POST on Thursday, Obasa said that effective legislation plays an integral role in the overall socio-economic development of all states and the country in general.

He used the opportunity to appeal to his colleagues to prioritise and be responsive to the needs and interests of the people, saying that every legislature operates under different rules and circumstances.

He said, “Continue to legislate for the good governance of their respective states because. Effective legislation plays an integral role in the overall socio-economic development of all states and the nation at large.

“As legislators, we must prioritise and be responsive to the needs and interests of the people as exemplified by our activities in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

“I understand that every legislature operates under different rules and circumstances, but you can never get it wrong when the goal is legislative efficiency and effectiveness, which are two different things”.
