Properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed in a fire incident that ravaged twelve shops in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

DAILY POST gathered that the incident on Thursday occurred at Block A, No. 64 Mayegun Cement Store Market, Araromi, Agodi Gate in Ibadan.

Properties worth millions of naira were reportedly destroyed in the blaze.

The General Manager of Oyo State Fire Service, Mr Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed the incident.

In a statement made available to DAILY POST on Friday, he noted that no lives were lost.

According to him: “The agency's control room received the distressed call at exactly 11:02 pm on Thursday, 10th April 2025.

“The fire personnel promptly deployed to the scene of the fire incident. On arrival, we met some lock-up shops well alight and we swiftly swung into action and restricted the fire from spreading to other nearby shops.

“The fire affected 12 shops out of a large number of shops and we were able to save properties worth billions of naira in the market.

“The fire was as a result of an upsurge in electricity which ignited nearby combustible materials.”
