Properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed in a fire that ravaged a residential building in Oyo town.

It was reported that the incident occurred at Elere House, Gold and Rock area in Oyo.

General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Tuesday.

In the statement, made available to the DAILY POST, Akinyinka said the fire was caused by an electricity surge when the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, IBEDC, restored power.

According to him: “The fire incident was reported to our station at exactly 12:24 hours. Fire personnel, led by ACFS Oyedeji, promptly deployed to the scene. On arrival, we found a private residential building
with six rooms engulfed in flames.

“We swiftly began operations and were able to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.

“Properties worth millions of naira were destroyed by the fire; no casualties were reported, and all surrounding buildings and properties worth billions of naira were saved by officers of this Agency.
