Prove you’re ready to end war — Zelenskyy challenges Putin

Published on March 25, 2025 at 09:04 PM

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine has urged Russia to prove that it is genuinely ready to end the war and to stop deceiving the world.

He emphasised that concrete results are needed from Russia, adding that Ukraine and the international community do not trust Moscow.

Zelenskyy stated that Russia’s actions in the coming days would reveal a great deal—if not everything—about its true intentions.

His remarks follow an announcement by the White House that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to ensure the safe passage of commercial shipping in the Black Sea and to halt military strikes.

Washington issued separate statements after US officials met representatives from both countries in Saudi Arabia.

However, Zelenskyy, while expressing cautious optimism, warned in a statement on his X handle that if Russian manipulations and threats persist, new measures would need to be taken, specifically against Moscow.

Zelenskyy said: “How Russia behaves in the coming days will reveal a lot—if not everything. If there are air raid alerts again, if there is renewed military activity in the Black Sea, if Russian manipulations and threats continue—then new measures will need to be taken, specifically against Moscow.

“Diplomacy must work. And from the Ukrainian side, we are doing everything to make that happen. I thank everyone who is helping. I am grateful to the United States for the constructive and effective work of our teams.

“Now, results are needed from Russia. We do not trust them. And frankly—the world doesn’t trust Russia. They must prove that they are truly ready to end the war—ready to stop lying to the world, to @realDonaldTrump, and to America.”
