Punter wins life-changing sum from £20 as bookies destroyed by ‘one of the best bets we’ve seen in years’

From £1.70 pints to sun, sea and excitement - why Benidorm is becoming number one hotspot for Brit racing enthusiasts

‘ONE of the best bets in years' has landed one punter a life-changing sum from just £20 – as bookies came to terms with a truly ‘remarkable' hammering.

While most people are still counting the cost of a Cheltenham where loads of heavy favourites were turned over, this bettor is celebrating the punt of a lifetime on the all weather at Southwell.

Horse race at night under floodlights.
One punter was celebrating a life-changing win last weekend when their four horses all won under the lights at Southwell

The punter, from St Helens, wisely went against all the market leaders and plucked for some shrewd outsiders instead.

Incredibly, their bet, which included a £1 Lucky 15 and £5 four-fold to total £20, nearly came down at the first leg last Friday.

It would have been curtains had 14-1 Dutch Kingdom not got up by a short head to deny 2-1 favourite Legal Reform.

That last-ditch win in the 7pm race over 7f was followed by 12-1 King Of Fury half an hour later.

Sean Kirrane got the Michael Dods-trained sprinter up by a neck to deny former champion jockey Oisin Murphy on 8-1 How Impressive.

Toby Tops won the next 30 minutes after at 6-1 which meant the colossal jackpot all came down Sevensees in the 8.30, the final race of the night.

The Stuart Williams-trained runner bounced out under 5lb claimed Warren Fentiman and wasn't to be denied over the minimum 5f trip.

The five-year-old gelding won by a head in the end, refusing to buckle under sustained pressure from 2-1 fav Moulin Booj.

That victory meant the entire Lucky 15 and four-fold acca popped.

And all in all it saw the punter land a staggering £96,578 from a £20 stake.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Our plucky punter truly has put the luck in Lucky 15 here.

“You'll do well to find a closer finish than Friday night's 7pm at Southwell.

“And while there was still a long way to go in the bet at the time, that short head victory for Dutch Kingdom ended up being the £95,000 difference maker for our customer.

“To land the Lucky 15 to the tune of £21,500 was one thing, but to back the 15,000-1 four-fold with a fiver on top – coupled with that early drama – means this has to go down as one of the best bets we've seen in recent years.”
