Qatar 2022: Eriksson names three attackers Southgate should start against France

Published on December 05, 2022 at 10:00 PM

Former England manager, Sven-Goran Eriksson, has urged Gareth Southgate to start the likes of Marcus Rashford, Harry Kane and Phil Foden in his attack line for the Three Lions’ FIFA World Cup quarter-final match against France.

Eriksson wants Southgate to feature the trio ahead of Bukayo Saka when England clashes with France on Saturday in the World Cup last-8.

England head to the game after beating Senegal 3-0 in the last-16, while France won 3-1 against Poland.

“Bukayo Saka is very quick, but I think Marcus Rashford should start ahead of him despite his goal against Senegal,”; Eriksson told BoyleSports.

“I think France will have more of the ball, so we need as much speed as we can get against them.

“If we ‘ve Rashford on the counter, we have a lot better chance of breaking and being more lethal on the counter, so I would’ve to go with Rashford, [Phil] Foden and [Harry] Kane against France.

“Rashford is a runner with and without the ball, he has to play.”;
