Qatar 2022: He’s now bad player – Evra speaks on Ronaldo retiring

Published on December 17, 2022 at 11:21 PM

Former France international, Patrice Evra, believes Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo could retire from football after his country’s 2022 FIFA World Cup exit a few days ago.

Evra said presently everything Ronaldo does, he is a ‘bad player’ after he failed to achieve his ‘dream’ of winning the World Cup in Qatar.

Ronaldo is currently a free agent after his contract with Manchester United was terminated before the 2022 World Cup got underway in Qatar.

And Evra, who played alongside Ronaldo during his first stint at Manchester United, insisted he would not be surprised if the former Juventus and Real Madrid star ended his hugely successful career.

“I don’t know [what he will do next]. [Lionel] Messi is saying he will retire [from the World Cup], but I don’t know if Ronaldo will retire,”; Evra told Sky Sports.

“Sometimes, when you are getting so much criticism, especially at the end of your career, you are like, OK, I think it is time to stop’.

“That must be a feeling, especially when you are not in the starting XI of your national team, because that is what Cristiano wanted; to play, be fit and win the World Cup with his country.

“This was his dream; now he doesn’t have that dream. Although I won’t talk for Cristiano, I wouldn’t be surprised if he says he is retiring. Now everything Cristiano does, he is a ‘bad person’, a ‘bad player’ or whatever. I wouldn’t be surprised if he decides to retire.”;
