Real Madrid: Bellingham red overturned, Rudiger gets six-game ban

Published on April 30, 2025 at 05:24 AM

Real Madrid defender, Antonio Rüdiger, has been handed a six-game ban for his red card in their 3-2 defeat to Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final.

However, his teammate Jude Bellingham has seen his sending off rescinded.

Rüdiger, Bellingham, and Lucas Vázquez were all dismissed in extra time of the game, as they reacted angrily to referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea’s decision.

In his report, De Burgos said Rüdiger had been sent off in the 120th minute “for throwing an object from the technical area”; and “had to be restrained by various members of the coaching staff, showing an aggressive attitude.”;

Vázquez, who had also already been withdrawn from the match, was dismissed for “entering the field of play.”;

Bellingham was carded after the final whistle for “approaching our position with an aggressive attitude, having to be held back by teammates.”;

On Tuesday, the Spanish football federation’s disciplinary committee slapped Rüdiger with a six-game ban, while Vázquez was handed a two-game suspension.
