Real Madrid have decided to pick Bayer Leverkusen boss, Xabi Alonso as their top priority to replace current manager Carlo Ancelotti at Santiago Bernabeu.
According to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Ancelotti is wanted by Brazil to become the country's national team head coach before the FIFA Club World Cup commences later this year.
Romano disclosed this in a tweet via his X account on Sunday.
“Xabi Alonso remains top priority of Real Madrid to replace Ancelotti, plan clear for months; still waiting for formal steps,” he wrote.
“Leverkusen will NOT stand in Xabi’s way; they’re aware of his desire to join Real since he turned down PL and Bayern approaches to stay one year ago.”
He added in another tweet, “Brazil insist to have Carlo Ancelotti as new head coach, they want it to happen before the Club World Cup.
“Federation emissaries, in Madrid for days to approach Carlo’s camp; staying also next week to accelerate.
“Ancelotti can really leave Real Madrid, as reported.”
Interestingly, both Alonso and Ancelotti's current contracts with their present clubs will expire in June, 2026.
