Small UK airport gets new flights to top European holiday destination – six years after route was cancelled

TRAVELLERS can fly from Exeter to Amsterdam for the first time in five years.

Airline service KLM has e which is the first time the cities have been linked directly since 2019.

One service a day connects the UK regional airport to the popular Dutch city.

Flights between the two destinations will take 90 minutes.

Services heading to Amsterdam leave at 5.20pm, touching down in the Dutch capital at 7.50pm (local time).

Return journeys see flights leave at 4.15pm before touching down in the UK at 4.50pm.

The service started on 30 March 2025, and will continue throughout the year.

The daily service is operated by KLM Cityhopper, using an 88-seat Embraer 175 regional jet aircraft.

Stephen Wiltshire, Exeter Airport's managing director, has called the new service a “game-changer” for in the South West.

The manager of Redruth branch of Newell's Travel, Jenna Carveth, added: “This new route from Exeter is great as it opens up a lot more opportunity to not only visit Amsterdam but to connect with various locations all over the world.

“Hopefully the more this route is supported the more options will come along in the .”

Previously had provided the service from Exeter to Amsterdam.

They had daily flights and operated up to 16 journeys a week in .

Around 60,000 passengers a year used to fly to and from Amsterdam before the Exeter-based regional carrier entered administration in 2019.

In 2022, Amsterdam was voted the 9th best city to live in the world – and it's a popular holiday destination for Brits too.

The Dutch capital is has plenty to keep holidaymakers entertained, including world-class museums like the and the Van Gogh Museum.
