Relief after 15 years as Yola Town water scheme gets facelift

Published on March 25, 2025 at 10:08 AM

Residents of Yola Town in Yola South Local Government Area of Adamawa State have been relieved of an acute shortage of water.

Yola Town, the seat of the Adamawa Emirate, is the section of the twin Yola capital city distinct from Jimeta, the administrative seat of the state government in Yola North LGA.

The Adamawa State Government and the State Project Coordination Unit of the North East Multisectoral Crisis Recovery Project, MCRP, have revitalized the Yola Urban Water Supply Project, thereby delivering water to communities in Yola South LGA.

The communities had endured over 15 years of water scarcity.

The rehabilitation project includes a newly installed transmission line complemented by a 15-kilometre distribution network that serves much of Yola South LGA.

The water infrastructure upgrades also include the renovation of office blocks equipped with facilities to ensure sustainable water management.

The Adamawa State Project Coordinator for the MCRP, Dr. Maurice Vunobolki, hailed the revitalized water supply scheme as a turning point for thousands of households.

“It’s not just about pipes and pumps—it’s about restoring dignity and improving quality of life,” Vunobolki said.

The Yola Urban Water Supply Project is part of a broader effort under the MCRP to address water access across Adamawa State, with similar rehabilitation initiatives underway in three other LGAs: Numan, Shelleng, and Ganye.
