Ridiculously obvious case of judicial corruption: Elon Musk reacts to arrest of ex-Judge, wife

Published on April 25, 2025 at 07:43 AM

United States of America tech billionaire, Elon Musk has reacted to the arrest of former judge at Doña Ana County Magistrate Joel Cano and his wife, Nancy Cano, on Thursday for allegedly housing an illegal migrant gang member.

Elon Musk, who doubled as lead at the President Donald Trump-backed Department of Government Efficiency, on his X account on Friday said the arrest was a ‘ridiculously obvious case of judicial corruption.'

He claimed that most judicial corruption is severe but not obvious.

“This is a ridiculously obvious case of judicial corruption.

“The vast majority of judicial corruption is just as severe, but not as obvious,” he wrote on X.

This comes as Fox News reported on Thursday that the judge and his wife face charges of evidence tampering amid allegations they harboured Cristhian Ortega-Lopez, an alleged illegal alien who is also believed to be a member of Venezuela’s notorious Tren de Aragua gang.

“Under President Trump, we have arrested over 150,000 aliens—including more than 600 members of the vicious Tren de Aragua gang,” said Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem. “If you are here illegally and break the law, we will hunt you down, arrest you, and lock you up. That's a promise.”

The arrest follows a February incident where Ortega-Lopez was apprehended at the Cano residence. Court documents reveal that he was initially hired by Nancy Cano for home repairs and later offered accommodation in the couple's guesthouse.

Investigators uncovered evidence that indicted the suspect, Ortega-Lopez. Evidence from investigators further linked the suspect to the Tren de Aragua gang, including gang-related clothing, tattoos, voicemails, and text messages.

According to court documents, he unlawfully entered the U.S. on Dec. 15, 2023, by crossing the border near Eagle Pass, Texas, without inspection or authorisation.
