Rivers crisis made governance impossible – Magnus Abe justifies emergency rule

Former Social Democratic Party, SDP, governorship candidate in Rivers State,
Sen. Magnus Abe, has justified the declaration of state of emergency in the state by President Bola Tinubu.

Abe claimed that the situation in Rivers had reached a stalemate, rendering government operations nearly impossible.

He stated this on Friday while fielding questions on Arise Television's Morning Show programme.

This followed the House of Representatives approval of Tinubu's declaration of emergency rule in Rivers amid stiff opposition from many Nigerians

DAILY POST reported that the Senate also approved the emergency rule declaration in Rivers State.

Reacting to the development,
Abe said: “In a democratic state like Nigeria, various types of emergencies can arise. According to our laws, appropriation is the responsibility of elected representatives, and without it, disbursement is impossible.

“The situation in Rivers had reached a stalemate, rendering government operations nearly impossible.”
