Rivers crisis: Sara-Igbe questions Tinubu’s decision on Wike

A member of the Rivers Elders Council, Anabs Sara-Igbe, has called on President Bola Tinubu to suspend one of his cabinet members, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike.
Sara-Igbe made the call when he appeared on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, faulting the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and his deputy, Ngozi Odu for a period of six months.

The elder statesman said that the President lacked the constitutional power to remove a constitutionally elected governor.

“He has no constitutional power to suspend the governor,”; Sara-Igbe said.

He further questioned the President's refusal to question or sanction the minister of FCT, who, according to him, is fomenting the whole problem.

“What stops him from sanctioning the minister that is causing the whole problem?”; He queried.

DAILY POST reported that Tinubu had on Tuesday declared a state of emergency in the oil-rich state and suspended Governor Fubara, his deputy and other elected officers.

Sara-Igbe accused Wike of being the arrowhead of the whole crisis and argued that the President was not fair in addressing the issue.

“You have suspended an elected governor, but you cannot suspend a minister who is the root cause of all the problem.

“If two children are fighting, you will beat the two of them, heaven will say that you are fair. You cannot flog one child all through and abuse him when he is not the troublemaker to insult everybody.

“He has insulted every part of the country. He has insulted his grandfathers, calling ethnic groups to come out and cause problem. But the man that is peaceful, obeying you is the one that you sanctioned,”; he stated.
