Ronaldo: 3 top EPL players to leave in January over game time

The January 2023 winter transfer window could witness a couple of high-profile moves as Manchester United recently terminated the contract of forward, Cristiano Ronaldo.

DAILY POST reports that the January transfer window will officially open almost immediately after the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar

Many players who impress during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar will be in high demand from clubs in need of their services.

For some other players, their lack of regular playing time in the ongoing 2022-2023 season could make them change clubs in January 2023.

DAILY POST takes a look at some high-profile players in the Premier League who have not been given much playing time by their club managers so far this season and could seek to join another club in January.

– Arthur Melo:

Melo joined Liverpool in the summer on loan from Juventus, with an option to make his deal permanent.

Despite the optimism surrounding his transfer to the Premier League, the 26-year-old has not been a regular starter in Jurgen Klopp’s team.

Melo has been restricted to just a substitute appearance in the UEFA Champions League against Napoli this season.

The former Barcelona midfielder is currently nursing an injury which has ruled him out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

He could possibly seek regular minutes away from Liverpool should he return to action before the end of the January transfer window in 2023.

– Denis Zakaria:

Another Premier League player whose loan spell has been going quite according to plan is Zakaria.

Zakaria joined Chelsea on loan from Juventus on deadline day.

Expectations were high upon his arrival in the Premier League this summer.

But very little has been seen of Zakaria as to what he can offer Chelsea due to his lack of game time under the Blues’ manager, Graham Potter.

The Switzerland international was also overlooked by former Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel.

The 25-year-old is yet to taste Premier League football action this season for Chelsea.

However, should the situation not improve, Zakari could possibly cut short his disappointing loan spell by January.

– Hakim Ziyech:

Ziyech was among the few Chelsea players who were tipped to leave Stamford Bridge during the summer transfer window.

However, the move never materialized for the winger.

The Moroccan international has found game time very hard to come by at Chelsea this season.

The 29-year-old has been restricted to less than 300 minutes of football action this season for Chelsea.

The former Ajax star is presently down the pecking order for attackers under Chelsea manager Graham Potter.

Just like Zakari, should the situation not improve, Ziyech could possibly leave the west London club by January in a bid to get regular game time should suitable offers come for him.
