St Helens starlet Harry Robertson plays his way into England reckoning

HARRY Robertson has catapulted himself into the England reckoning ahead of the Ashes’ return.

The St Helens starlet has attracted rave reviews for his performances at centre this season.

And SunSport understands the 19-year-old, who can also play at full back and half back, was among the Super League aces that attended the latest international get together under boss Shaun Wane.

That means more pressure for the likes of NRL star Herbie Farnworth, as well as Wigan’s Jake Wardle, Leeds’ Harry Newman and Saints clubmate Mark Percival in that role.

Robertson, who returns for tonight's clash with Wakefield after passing concussion protocols, is already tied down on a contract until 2028 at St Helens, so any NRL team looking to poach him before then would have to pay a fee.

This international recognition – players in contention to face Australia in the Autumn get together every six weeks or so – is the next step.

And if Saints boss Paul Wellens’ experience is anything to by, it is a fair bet Wane will be busy.

His club chief said: “What I love about him the most is every day when he turns up to training he’s got a hunger, thirst and a want to improve.

“He is always in the coaches’ office asking about different things he can be doing to develop his game. And for me as of course, that’s the dream.

“If you look at young players making their debut for Saints in the last 10/15/20 years, quite often they’re coming into a team that’s doing well and playing well, and they’ve got a lot of experience around them.

“It was a very different situation for Harry last year. It was very much a baptism of fire for him but the way he approached it was first class and told us a lot about him as a young man.”;
