President Volodymyr Zelenskky has condemned Russia's latest missile strike on Ukraine, accusing Moscow of disregarding the United States proposal on cessation of hostilities.
In response to the bombing of Ukraine's northeastern city of Sumy, Zelenskyy stated that Russia had placed continued destruction above diplomacy.
The Palm Sunday morning strike wreaked havoc as two ballistic missiles hit many citizens who were marking the religious holiday ahead of the Easter celebrations.
Zelenskyy said the attack, which killed at least 34 people, including two children, and injured 117, was a sign that “the aggressor” would not stop until “enough pressure” is exerted.
He noted that many world leaders, diplomats, and ordinary people with big hearts had expressed their condolences to Ukraine and chided Russia.
In a video posted to X, Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to everyone who remembers that wars end when the crimes of war are not forgotten.
“When the aggressor is met with enough pressure. And that’s exactly what’s missing right now,” the Ukranian leader observed.
Zelenskyy recalled that last Friday marked one month since Russia “spurned” the proposal by the United States for a “full and unconditional ceasefire.”
The head of state said in spite of peace talks, Russia has not stopped launching ballistic missiles because “they are not afraid.”
“That’s why there are nearly a hundred attack drones every night — most of them Shaheds — targeting ordinary Ukrainian cities.
“Russian assaults on the front line continue as well. They do not stop attacking. Only pressure — only decisive action — can change this.”
Zelenskky said every Russian ballistic missile, cruise missile, Shahed drone and bomb hits not only Ukrainians but also diplomacy and the efforts of everyone trying to end the war.
