Russia, Ukraine agree to avoid Black Sea strikes – US

Published on March 25, 2025 at 04:19 PM

The United States on Tuesday said it has made separate agreements with Ukraine and Russia to ensure safe navigation in the Black Sea and to implement a ban on strikes against energy facilities in the two countries.

In a statement, the White House said that Washington would help restore Russia’s access to the world market for agricultural and fertilizer exports and would continue facilitating talks on both sides in a bid toward achieving a sustainable peace.

The White House statement also expressed gratitude to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for his leadership and hospitality in once again facilitating the important discussions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

According to the White House, each country agreed to ensure safe navigation, eliminate the use of force and prevent the use of commercial vessels for military purposes in the Black Sea.

The United States also said it would support Russian fertilizer exports, a grievance for Moscow after sweeping sanctions over its invasion of Ukraine.

“The United States will help restore Russia's access to the world market for agricultural and fertilizer exports, lower maritime insurance costs and enhance access to ports and payment systems for such transactions,” the statement read.
