Published on April 25, 2025 at 08:42 AM

Many members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in Abia State have joined the Social Democratic Party, SDP, with a promise to help SDP take over Abia State Government House, Umuahia, in 2027.

The APGA members from 184 wards in the State, who were led by Azubuike Peter Chijioke, said they identified SDP as the right political vehicle Abia State and Nigeria need now.

They were officially received by the SDP National Chairman, Shehu Gabam, at the party's national headquarters in Abuja.

Speaking while recieving the defecting APGA members, he described the mass defection as a significant boost to the party’s strength ahead of the 2027 general elections, particularly in its quest to take over the Abia State Government House.

The SDP chairman also advised the defectors to prioritise proper ward-level registration in line with the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) digital membership requirements, stressing the importance of maintaining an updated party register.

In response to the group's requests for membership cards and other party materials, Gabam assured them of the party’s full support and promised the issuance of customised membership cards to facilitate their integration.
