Senator Ali Ndume raises concern over rising Boko Haram attacks in Borno

Published on March 26, 2025 at 08:24 PM

Senator Ali Ndume has voiced deep concerns over the escalating security crisis in Borno State, particularly the resurgence of Boko Haram attacks that have led to casualties among both civilians and security forces.

Ndume revealed that recent assaults on military formations in Northern and Southern Borno claimed the lives of two soldiers. He lamented the ongoing devastation in communities such as Gwoza, Askira-Uba, Chibok, Damboa, Biu, and Hawul, where residents are enduring persistent violence, destruction, and looting.

The senator highlighted the impact of the attacks on efforts to reopen the vital Maiduguri-Damboa-Biu Road. Due to the insecurity, travelers now face long detours through Gombe State, turning a typically two-hour journey into a grueling 12-hour ordeal.

Ndume also reported fresh attacks, including an assault on an army formation in Wajirko, Damboa Local Government Area, where a landmine explosion injured the Brigade Commander of Operation Hadin Kai and resulted in additional soldier casualties. Furthermore, military bases in Wulgo village, near the Gamboru Ngala border town, were overrun, leading to the disbandment of troops in the area.

With Boko Haram's continued aggression, the situation in Borno remains dire, posing a severe threat to both military personnel and civilians in the state.
