I thought I’d need a brand new kitchen but discovered Shein’s stick-on tiles & completed the makeover with Amazon buys

A SAVVY woman has transformed her drab kitchen without spending a fortune.

Amanda Horkley, from the UK, revealed she needed a new kitchen, but instead of going to the professionals, she decided to give it a revamp herself.

But she did it herself instead of purchasing a brand new kitchen

Amanda wrote: “Tried to stave off getting a new kitchen a bit longer.”

She shared some before images of her kitchen which featured dark wooden cabinets and grey backsplash tiles.

But the DIY whizz was quick to update the room with a splash of colour.

She said: “I used Rustoleum cupboard paint in Serenity, two coats, one with a paintbrush and then a sponge roller.”

To prep the cupboards for painting, she first gave them a good wash with sugar soap, wiped them dry, lightly sanded them down and wiped them clean.

She then replaced the bulky silver cupboard handles with a slimmer model from Amazon.

After, she used Frenchic black paint for the fan hood and backsplash.

Last but not least, Amanda used some cheap stick-on tiles from Shein in a black and white pattern to add some extra detail.

She also used tiles from Shein in a mother of pearl design in between the top and bottom cupboards.

Amanda was thrilled with the transformation, adding: “Cheap and cheerful to brighten it up for a bit longer.”

She was able to do it on a budget thanks to Amazon and Shein buys

The post was shared on the Facebook group, DIY On A Budget Official, which boasts over 2 million followers.

People were quick to congratulate Amanda on her DIY skills.

One person wrote: “You've done a great job, it does look like a new kitchen & I love the colour scheme!”

Another commented: “Looks beautiful.”

How to do your council house up on the cheap

  • Take inspiration from pricier shops and head to B&M, Home Bargains for interior decorations.
  • Head to YouTube for easy to follow tutorials on how to decorate rather than paying for professionals.
  • For a quick glow-up for your floors or anywhere with tiles, opt for stick-on vinyl to save on costs.
  • A lick of paint does wonders to make a room feel brand-new.
  • Switch out kitchen cupboard knobs for modern ones instead of buying brand-new cupboards.

“What a great transformation, well done,” penned a third.

Meanwhile, a fourth said: “Looks great.”

Someone else added: “Great job it looks fab.”
