Slain Chinese miners trailed from Ebonyi – Abia Govt

Preliminary investigation into the killing of two Chinese miners and one of their Police escorts in Uturu, Abia State, has disclosed that the victims may have been trailed from Ebonyi to Abia State by their attackers.

The Abia State Commissioner for information, Okey Kanu disclosed this on Monday while briefing journalists on the outcome of this week's executive council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.

Kanu, who said that security agencies were investigating the crime, also also suggested that it was not a kidnap incident, even as he confirmed that the Police have rescued the rest of the travelling team.

His words: “Immediately that happened, the police swung into action and rescued the rest of the members of the travelling team.

“However, preliminary investigations point to the fact that the Chinese travelling party may have been trailed from Ebonyi State to Abia by the bandits.”

“The state security agencies are investigating the incident to unravel the motives of the bandits since it was not a kidnap incident,” Kanu said.

The Commissioner for Information, who announced that Abia State Health Insurance Scheme would be launched by Governor Alex Otti on Thursday in Umuahia, added that former President, Olusegun Obasanjo and Governor Otti will launch sound intervention hearing mission in Abia State to assist those with hearing challenges.
