BAD BOY Liang Wenbo has been suspended from snooker following a probe into âallegations of misconductâ.
The world No45 was set to play Peter Lines on Thursday morning in Leicester in the qualifiers for the English Open, which takes place in Essex in December.
But the Chinese snooker player was told before his match could start that he was banned from the baize as the sportâs governing body opened an investigation.
In a statement, the WPBSA said: âWe have suspended Liang Wenbo from attending or competing in sanctioned events.
âThis is due to an ongoing investigation into allegations of misconduct.
âThe suspension will remain in place until the conclusion of the investigation or the outcome of disciplinary proceedings.
âThe WPBSA will not comment further until the investigation is complete.â
It is understood the matter is unrelated to the four-month suspension he served earlier this year after being convicted of domestic-related assault.
The incident took place in Sheffield in July 2021 and the 35-year-old pleaded guilty in February.
CCTV footage caught Liang hitting and kicking a woman in the street in what the CPS called a âsustained and deliberateâ attack.
In April, the Oxfordshire-based star was fined ã1,380 and given a 12-month community order.
The WPBSA said at the time that they âstrongly condemn all forms of violenceâ and the player had âbrought the sport into disreputeâ.
