It feels like forever since we’ve seen new episodes of Stranger Things, and fans are waiting around each day for any new updates regarding the next season. We’ve been speculating all year whether or not the fourth installment would be heading to Netflix in 2021, and though it’s been all but confirmed that it won’t be out until next year, we’re still holding out a shred of hope that perhaps Stranger Things season 4 could come out sooner than we were expecting.
That glimmer of hope was only intensified yesterday, May 5, when the official @strangerwriters account tweeted out a major tease for all fans to get hyped about. “Are you ready?,” they wrote, sending us all on a frenzy. Soon after, a video was released by the Stranger Things YouTube account, promising something coming at 9:00 a.m. ET on May 6.
Of course, fans took the bait. Everyone was under the impression that perhaps the first official Stranger Things season 4 trailer would drop this morning, or at least another short teaser. Well, a new video was just released, and while it’s not a trailer, it does give us a glimpse at what’s to come!
New Stranger Things season 4 teaser
Check out the latest Stranger Things season 4 teaser below.
What do you make out of that? It looks like we’re going back in time to get some more of Eleven’s (Millie Bobby Brown) backstory, and Dr. Brenner a.k.a. “Papa” (Matthew Modine) is making his return, something that had been rumored previously. We’re back in the lab with other children, who are presumably the other test subjects.
The teaser includes the numbers 4, 7, and 8, which are likely references to the other kids. Kali, a.k.a. Eight, might make an appearance in the new season as well. The video ends with Brenner calling out to Eleven, meaning this is probably a flashback.
Will season 4 be full of flashbacks? At this point, we’re not sure.
Stranger Things season 3 ended on such an emotional note and a cliffhanger, with Hopper presumably dead and Eleven moving away from Hawkins and Mike with the Byers family. There’s a ton of questions leading into Stranger Things season 4, and I cannot wait to see how it all unfolds.
Stranger Things season 4 release date
While fans were expecting the fourth installment to debut on Netflix sometime in 2020, COVID-19-related production delays, of course, changed those plans.
Last month, Mike Wheeler actor Finn Wolfhard revealed that the fourth season “should be out sometime next year.” Though filming resumed back in November 2020, Dustin Henderson actor Gaten Matarazzo explained earlier this year that the process was going more slowly than usual. None of this was good news to fans, of course, who have been waiting since July 2019 for more episodes.
We’ll keep you all updated once we get a release date, but don’t expect the new season to come out until 2022.
At least we’re now getting sneak peeks into Stranger Things season 4. Here’s to hoping we get a release date and maybe even the first official full-length trailer sometime in the coming months!
