THE UK’s largest tour operator, Jet2, has officially landed at Luton airport.

The first flight from the low-cost airline’s 13th and newest base took off for Majorca at 8:15AM today, with free food and drink for passengers travelling on the inaugural service.

There will be two brand new Airbus A321 neo aircrafts operating services from Luton.

The services will fly to 17 destinations across Europe, including Greece, the Balearic Islands and Portugal.

Boss of Luton Airport, Alberto Martin, said that today was the “start of a bright future”; and “a day of celebration”.

It is the first time in 20 years that a new base airline has arrived at Luton.

There will be 430,000 seats available across 36 flights over the next few months for summer 2025.

And bookings for summer 2026 are set to open within the next couple of weeks, while bookings for 2027 will be available from September this year.

Jet2 has launched three exclusive routes with its new programme too.

The first is from Luton to Girona, a city in the northeast region of Catalonia, Spain.

Girona which is an hour away from the more popular tourist spot of Barcelona is known for its well-preserved medieval Old Town, huge cathedral and local delicacy, Xuixo cakes.

Another exclusive new route launched by Jet2 is to the island of Madeira, which after going viral on TikTok, has been called the ‘Hawaii of Europe'.

Thanks to its blue seas and unique scenery, the Portuguese island off the coast of Morocco is becoming a popular spot – and now you can get there in under four hours.

Last on the exclusive list of Jet2 flights is from Luton to the Italian city of Verona.

Verona is considered one of the most romantic destinations in Europe thanks to its close proximity to Lake Garda.

The city is known for its culture and history, and you can see it come to life at the Arena di Verona, an old Roman arena where concerts are held all year round.

In Verona, the Piazza delle Erbe market has colourful cafés and stalls, perfect for immersing yourself in the local culture.

Other must-sees are the Scaliger Tombs and Juliet's House.

That's not all, with Jet2, you can also fly to winter sun destinations like Lanzarote, Tenerife and Fuerteventura, as well as popular family holiday spots like Dalaman, Crete and Alicante.

Speaking of Jet2's arrival, Luton Airport's Alberto Martin said: “Passengers are happier than ever.

“We have been working very hard to deliver on this – it's something that hasn't happened at the airport in a very long time.”

“We were permitted to hold an extra 10 million passengers which allowed us to work with Jet2.”

Plus, another two winter sun routes from regional UK airports.

And Jet2 plans on flying to these popular destinations for summer 2026 thanks to popular demand.
