Five savvy ways to make the most of your leftover Easter eggs

CHIP IN: Chop up those leftover eggs and store in an airtight container in the freezer.

A pot of frozen choc shards is perfect for stirring into pancake batter for a special chocolatey Easter Monday brekkie — or for a slightly healthier version try stirring a mashed banana into porridge and add your frozen choc shavings on top.

HOT TAKE: For a hot chocolate with an twist, make it your usual way then grate hollow eggs over the top with a pinch of cinnamon.

You can also add a spoonful of grated choc to your morning latte for a sweet caffeine hit.

ICE TRY: Got a tub of vanilla ice cream in the freezer?

Take it out and leave on the side for a few minutes and, once softened, stir through your chunks of chopped up chocolate bunnies, eggs or buttons before refreezing for a homemade luxury choccy ice cream treat.

GIFT SAVER: Melt down chocolate egg odds and ends, or whatever you have left over with chopped nuts and dried fruit, before spreading the mixture on to a baking tray lined with greaseproof paper.

Leave to set in the fridge then, once set, break into shards and wrap in new greaseproof paper.

This is a great gift to take to someone’s house if they are hosting today.

LUNCHBOX TREAT: Raid the cupboard for the last of a packet of biscuits, cereal and raisins then gather any leftover , broken up into chunks.

Melt the chocolate in a pan with a little butter and golden syrup before adding your cupboard leftovers, then pop the mixture into a deep baking tray.

Leave to set in the fridge, then cut into squares and you will have tasty chocolate cake bars to add to your lunchboxes for the week ahead.
