Shoppers go wild as Dubai chocolate dupe drops in Lidl
A MAJOR retailer has enforced an item limit on chocolate lovers desperate to get their hands on a viral sweet treat set to hit shelves this weekend.
Lidl has announced that it will be stocking its shelves with its own version of the highly-sought after Dubai Chocolate.

But, before shoppers get too excited, it has followed in the footsteps of Waitrose by enforcing a two bar limit per customer due to the huge popularity of the bar.
The chocolate is filled with Knafeh, a traditional Arab dessert, and pistachio and sent TikTokers into a frenzy when it went viral after its creation in 2021.
Lidl has branded it a “viral sensation that keep son giving” with fans going into a “meltdown” when it launched its version of the bar for just £3.99.
The 122g J.D. Gross Dubai Style Chocolate “sold out almost immediately, with 72 bars flying into baskets per minute” after it was launched on the Lidl TikTok shop, the budget retailer said.
“Frenzied fans of Dubai chocolate sold out the 6,000 bars in just over an hour”, it added.
Now, as it announced the nationwide rollout of the pistachio treat from March 29.
But, in order to share the love, shoppers will only be able to buy two bars at a time.
Lidl has told shoppers to “run” to bag the treat, not only due to its popularity, but also thanks to its budget price tag.
“Devotees can wave Du-bye to the hefty price-tag of other bars,” the German retailer proudly announced.
While retailers like Waitrose have stocked their shelves with the Lindt Dubai Style Chocolate priced at £10, Lidl shoppers will get the J.D. Gross dupe for a fraction of the cost.
Lidl shoppers go crazy about ‘absolutely phenomenal’ Kinder Beuno
Lidl plus card holders will be able to score the bar for £3.99 which is almost three times cheaper than the Lindt version.
Meanwhile, by shopping with Lidl, non members will be able to save themselves almost 50 per cent with a price tag of £4.99.
Lucky shoppers who got their hands on the first launch on the TikTok shop have raved about the JD Gross bar.
“Sensational, absolutely loved this, please please please bring this to stores now!” one said.
How to save money on chocolate
We all love a bit of chocolate from now and then, but you don't have to break the bank buying your favourite bar.
Consumer reporter Sam Walker reveals how to cut costs…
Go own brand – if you're not too fussed about flavour and just want to supplant your chocolate cravings, you'll save by going for the supermarket's own brand bars.
Shop around – if you've spotted your favourite variety at the supermarket, make sure you check if it's cheaper elsewhere.
Websites like Trolley.co.uk let you compare prices on products across all the major chains to see if you're getting the best deal.
Look out for yellow stickers – supermarket staff put yellow, and sometimes orange and red, stickers on to products to show they've been reduced.
They usually do this if the product is coming to the end of its best-before date or the packaging is slightly damaged.
Buy bigger bars – most of the time, but not always, chocolate is cheaper per 100g the larger the bar.
So if you've got the appetite, and you were going to buy a hefty amount of chocolate anyway, you might as well go bigger.
Others begged Lidl to “stock this all year round” while saying the bar is “absolutely delicious 10/10”.
Eagle-eyed shoppers have also spotted dupes of the viral chocolate bar in Home Bargains recently.
