Netflix seems to have found its next breakout comic book-inspired original and DC Comics fans won’t have to wait much longer for the arrival of Sweet Tooth season 1.
First announced in May 2020, Netflix’s Sweet Tooth is inspired by the DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint illustrated series of the same name which ran from 2009 to 2013 across a forty-issue series from Jeff Lemire. Set against a post-apocalyptic world, the series is built around Gus, a young boy who is part deer, who flees from his secluded home in the forest and embarks on a journey into a world ravaged by a cataclysmic event. Along his journey, he meets a ragtag group of humans and fellow hybrids as they search for answers to the mystery surrounding the origins of the world’s hybrid beings.

Sweet Tooth season 1 plot synopsis
At this time, it’s uncertain how Netflix will look to adapt the storylines introduce in the comics which Sweet Tooth is based upon in season 1. Considering the comic series ran for 40 issues and Netflix has likely envisioned a multiseason run for the series, it seems likely fans can expect the storyline from season 1 to be inspired by the early issues in the comic’s run.
Here is how Netflix officially describes Sweet Tooth season 1:
Ten years ago “The Great Crumble” wreaked havoc on the world and led to the mysterious emergence of hybrids — babies born part human, part animal. Unsure if hybrids are the cause or result of the virus, many humans fear and hunt them. After a decade of living safely in his secluded forest home, a sheltered hybrid deer-boy named Gus (Christian Convery) unexpectedly befriends a wandering loner named Jepperd (Nonso Anozie). Together they set out on an extraordinary adventure across what’s left of America in search of answers— about Gus’ origins, Jepperd’s past, and the true meaning of home. But their story is full of unexpected allies and enemies, and Gus quickly learns the lush, dangerous world outside the forest is more complex than he ever could have imagined.
