Former Essex cricket star and Bangladesh captain, 36, on life support in hospital after heart attack on field

FORMER Bangladesh skipper Tamim Iqbal is in critical condition after suffering a heart attack.

The 36-year-old was rushed to hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest in Mohammedan Sporting Club's latest Dhaka Premier League Match on Monday.

He is said to have complained of chest pain shortly after the coin toss.

The fomer Essex star received treatment on the field after the arrest happened and was immediately rushed to the hospital.

Debashis Chowdhury, Bangladesh Cricket Board's medical officer, told AFP: “He suffered a heart attack.

“What I know so far is that his heart started to function better.”

Tamim is being treated at hospital in Savar which is on the outskirts of Dhaka.
