A TRIO of major Olympic events have been added to the roster for the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
The have announced three races have been added to the list of events scheduled to happen during the games.



On Wednesday the organisation confirmed a record-breaking 351 medal events for the 2028 Games, including more sprint-distance swimming and mixed-gender events in artistic and .
LA 2028 will feature Olympic debuts for the 50m backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly for both men and women as well as a mixed 4x100m relay on the track.
The move has been hailed as an “amazing decision” by legendary star .
Peaty, a three-time Olympic and four-time European champion in 50m breaststroke, confirmed he will be attempting to compete at a fourth set of Games following the decision on his page.
The 30-year-old said: “50m Sprint Events have just been added to LA 28 Games which confirms my attempt to be at my fourth Olympic Games.
“This is the best result for our incredible sport and will allow more people to be part of it and stay in it much longer.
“Thank you World Aquatics for this amazing decision. I’ve got a good feeling about these next three years.”
The swimming events in LA will be held at the SoFi Stadium – home to the LA Chargers – which, with its 38,000 seats, is set to become the largest swimming venue in Olympic history.
Peaty won gold in the Olympic 100m breaststroke on his debut in Rio 2016, before retaining the title at Tokyo 2020 along with winning gold in the 4x100m mixed medley.
Physical issues, including a positive Covid-19 test meant he had to settle for a silver medal in Paris last year, with Nicolo Martinenghi taking the crown.
The landmark LA Games will see 10,500 athletes competing across 31 sports in the initial programme.
With gender equality a key issue on the agenda for organisers, the IOC revealed there will be more female athletes (5,333) than male athletes (5,167).
Furthermore, for the first time in Olympic history, all team sports will have at least the same number of women's teams as men's teams,
Two female teams being added to the water polo programme while an additional weight has been added to the women's category
The women's competition will increase from 12 to 16 teams, while the men's competition will reduce from 16 to 12.
Five new sports have been proposed for the games, including American staple baseball/softball, flag football, T20 , lacrosse and squash.
An IOC statement said: “The LA28 program reflects a thoughtful balance of tradition and transformation.
“It celebrates excellence while adapting to what theOlympic Gamesmust become.”
When the 2028 Games – scheduled to take place from July 14 to July 30 – arrive in LA, it will make the city the third three-time hosts of the Summer Olympics, joining and Paris.
