Tinubu’s government legitimizing impunity in Nigeria – APC Chieftain, Ukauwa alleges

Published on March 24, 2025 at 04:25 PM

Ex-Abia State Governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ambassador Chibuike Ukauwa has advised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to change his pattern of leadership which he said was allegedly characterized by impunity.

Ukauwa lamented that the manner in which Nigeria is being governed with impunity sets the country on path of destruction and precipice.

He spoke recently in Port-Harcourt, following President Tinubu's declaration of state of emergency in Rivers State, and subsequent approval of the emergency rule by the leadership of the National Assembly last week.

Tinubu had cited constitutional breaches and security threats as reasons for the extra-ordinary measure he had to enforce.

He appointed Ibok Ete Ibas, a retired Naval chief, as Rivers State Sole administrator.

However, Ambassador Ukauwa, popularly known as Swaz, described President Tinubu's actions as a slap on constitutional democracy and berated the Nigerian leader for refusing to hear voices of reason to reverse the emergency rule in Rivers State.

According to him, the Tinubu's administration has portrayed the country as a lawless society, as it lacked the constitutional powers to suspend elected Governor.

Decrying the suspension of Governor Sim Fubara and other elected public officeholders with the imposition of emergency rule in the State, Ukauwa blasted the President for taking side and protecting the selfish interests of one man in the Rivers political imbroglio to the detriment of the people of the State.

The former Governorship aspirant also criticized the swift approval of the emergency rule in Rivers by the Senate and House of Representatives, describing members of both legislative chambers as anti democrats.

Ukauwa insisted that the Federal Lawmakers had become slaves in the hands of the President, thereby legitimizing impunity done by the present All Progressives Congress-controlled Federal Government.

He said: “The action of the APC-controlled leadership of the National Assembly is a total betrayal of public trust by allowing President Tinubu's declaration of emergency rule to scale through, in total disregard to several calls on the Lawmakers to reject the unconstitutional action”he said.

The Ex- Abia Gubernatorial Aspirant, advised the suspended Rivers State Governor, and Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike to embrace dialogue in resolving their political feud.

He also admonished Nigerians to defend the Nation's Democracy by speaking out against continued violation of the constitution by the President and APC to save democracy from total collapse.
