Todd Boehly reveals his Chelsea philosophy including transfer dealings in major shake-up to Roman Abramovich era

TODD BOHELY has revealed Chelsea are using a fresh “modern and data-driven philosophy” under his ownership.

Boehly, 49, opened up on his policies as the Blues confirmed the appointment of Joe Shields as new transfer guru.

Chelsea owner Boehly has revealed a ‘modern and data-driven philosophy’ at the club

The announcement of their incoming co-director of recruitment and talent sees the post-Roman Abramovich era shake-up continue.

Boehly said: “We have a clear plan and will adopt a modern and data-driven philosophy, focused on elite emerging talent.

“We’re assembling a deep and collaborative management team who are eager to build a continued sustained winner at Chelsea. “

The American owner announced the arrival of former Southampton and Manchester City transfer chief Shields on Thursday.

He will officially join the West London club when his role with the Saints is over.

Chelsea are said to be chasing some of the globe’s hottest youngsters.

They are reportedly in the race for Jude Bellingham, while keeping tabs on Lille ace Jonathan David and Palmeiras’ Brazilian wonderkid Endrick.

And Boehly hopes Shields can use his analytical skills to identify more top young talent.

He added: “Joe is another great addition to Chelsea, and we’re thrilled to have him on board.

“He has a great track record and understanding of the game and emerging talent.

“We know we have another strong leader and a team player who will help us continue to build our world-class football organisation.”

Shields becomes Chelsea’s second big appointment in as many days.

That’s after Monaco guru Laurence Stewart was hired in a newly-created transfer role.

There could be a third announcement shortly, with ex-RB Leipzig chief Christopher Vivell set to join as technical director.

And Chelsea are hopeful of landing a new sporting director too after holding interviews earlier this month.

Fans at Stamford Bridge were left shocked when the club announced Thomas Tuchel’s departure despite having led the Blues to Champions League glory just over a year previously.

Now Boehly and Graham Potter are joined by Shields and Stewart as they lead a Premier League charge.
