Travelers stranded as flooding worsens amid neglected bridge repairs

Published on April 02, 2025 at 11:36 AM

The heavy rainfall that occurred in the early hours of Wednesday has left travelers stranded in Gassol Local Government Council of Taraba State.

This, as observed by DAILY POST, was caused by the long-neglected Namnai Bridge, which remains in disrepair.

The bridge, which collapsed last year, has yet to receive any significant attention from the relevant authorities, compounding difficulties for motorists and commuters.

Although the state government previously claimed to have awarded a contract for its reconstruction, no visible work has begun at the site at the time of filing this report.

The downpour has made the route impassable, further worsening the fragile transportation network in the area.

Eyewitnesses reported that the flooding has severely disrupted movement, leaving passengers stranded.

Speaking with Flying Eze, one of the affected travelers, Chichi, described the situation as “the worst.”

Another commuter, Daniel Amos, who claimed to have been stuck for over an hour, urged the government to expedite action and mobilize contractors to the site.
