Troops of the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, under Operation Safe Haven, have arrested a suspected cattle rustler and recovered arms, ammunition, and stolen cattle during a clearance operation in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The operation, conducted under Operation Lafiyan Jama’a, was based on credible intelligence about criminal activities around the Youth Centre at the Sabon Layi axis of Mangu. In a statement on Sunday, the military confirmed that the troops engaged a cattle rustling syndicate in a gun duel, forcing the criminals to flee and abandon the stolen livestock.

“During the operation, troops arrested one Nashak Wilson, 29, from Jwakkom Village in Mangu LGA, who was armed with an AK-47 rifle loaded with two rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition,”; the statement read.

Additionally, the troops recovered 30 rustled cows, which were later handed over to their rightful owner, Alhaji Yakuba Musa from Kwahas Village.

The suspect and the recovered arms are currently in military custody for further investigation, while security forces have intensified efforts to apprehend the fleeing criminals.
