Trump speaks on running against Barack Obama as he eyes third term

Published on April 01, 2025 at 09:48 AM

President Donald Trump has said he would like to run against former US president Barack Obama.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Monday, Trump claimed Americans want him to run for another term.

A third term is banned by the US Constitution, but Trump continues to describe it as possible.

Trump was asked about the prospect of a presidential race putting him up against Obama, who served two terms.

“That would be a good one, I’d like that,”; he replied.

In an interview with NBC News on Sunday, Trump insisted he was “not joking” about the idea of a third term.

The 78-year-old Republican served from 2017 to 2021 and was sworn in for his second term in the White House on January 20.
