Trump takes decision on national security team after Signal group chat leaks

Published on March 26, 2025 at 11:29 PM

United States President Donald Trump has decided to maintain confidence in his national security team following the release of additional text messages from a Signal group chat detailing the Yemen strike.

This was disclosed by White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt on Wednesday.

“What I can say definitively is what I just spoke to the president about, and he continues to have confidence in his national security team,”; Leavitt told reporters in the White House briefing room.

Leavitt’s comment was in response to a reporter’s question on whether anyone would be dismissed over the Signal group chat scandal.

When asked if Trump felt misled by national security advisers or whoever assured him that no classified information was in the chat, Leavitt added, “I have given you my answer.

“The president feels the same today as he did yesterday.”;

This comes less than 24 hours after Trump’s National Security Adviser, Mike Waltz, said he took full responsibility for inviting a reporter into a Signal group chat of Trump administration officials discussing plans for an imminent military strike on the Houthis in Yemen.

Waltz made this statement on Tuesday during an interview on The Ingraham Angle, a programme on Fox News, describing the situation as embarrassing.
