Trump’s administration moves to reduce America’s $36 trillion debt, sells federal land

The President Donald Trump administration is considering using proceeds from sold federal land to reduce the nation's $36 trillion debt.

However, the move, according to POLITICO, is receiving a stiff opposition from the Democrats at the upper legislative chamber (Senate).

A Republican Senator, Mike Lee gave a hint about the administration's move in a post on his official X handle on Saturday.

According to him, the “Democrats tried to stop any of that money from being used to reduce our $36 trillion debt, We stopped them”.

There are reports indicating that the Congressional Republicans are also mulling the sale of some public lands in a bid to pay for Trump's massive domestic agenda bill.

House Natural Resources Chair Bruce Westerman had also said one concept under review would involve selling some lands around Western cities or national parks to build more housing.

Experts had raised concerns that the land sales could ignite a firestorm of opposition from both the Democrats and public land advocacy groups.
