Two men, 18 & 19, arrested after woman in her 60s killed in hit-and-run near school in crash involving car fleeing cops

TWO men have been arrested after a woman was killed in a horrific hit-and-run near a school.

The car had been driving away from police when it fatally struck the victim, in her 60s, at around 2.10pm in Edgware, north-west London, on Tuesday.

Metropolitan Police said the woman tragically died at the scene, despite the best efforts of emergency services to save her life.

The vehicle, which did not stop after the collision, was later found abandoned on a nearby street.

Now, two men, aged 18 and 19, have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop.

They currently remain in police custody.

A spokesperson for the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said: “We have begun an investigation into the involvement of the Met Police (MPS) in a fatal road traffic incident in Colindale yesterday.”

They added that a woman was confirmed dead at the scene “after she was hit by a car being pursued by police in Grahame Park Way.”

The spokesperson continued: “After we were notified by the MPS, we sent our investigators to the police post-incident procedure and to the scene to begin gathering evidence.

“We declared an independent investigation shortly after 4.30pm on Tuesday and our inquiries are still at a very early stage.”

Detectives from the Met's serious collision investigation unit are investigating the horrific collision and are appealing for witnesses.

The force said: “They are keen to hear from anyone who saw the incident or anyone leaving the car in Franco Avenue, including road users who have camera footage, to get in contact.”

Anyone with information on the collision is asked to call 101 or message @MetCC on X and quote CAD4440/25Mar.
