One of the UK’s oldest beach bars to open new rooftop terrace in time for summer

A BEACH bar in the UK that people have compared to being abroad has revealed plans for its new roof terrace.

The Watering Hole in Cornwall is said to be one of the oldest beach bars in the UK.

Having opened in 1978, the bar is set to double in size.

The new plans were given the go-ahead back in 2022, with works only starting last November.

Images reveal a roof terrace with a bar and cafe as well as seating.

New toilet blocks and showers as well as groundwork to protect it from storm are part of the revamp too.

The renovations hope to be complete by summer with the rooftop bar opening by May.

The bar said in a statement on Facebook said: “Exciting times ahead for the future.

“As we near the end of the busy period we get ready to start our next development stage to our rooftop bar, the building will start again early November and we will remain open, we are planning to have the new bar open in May for you all.”

The bar also hosts music festival Tunes in the Dunes every year, claiming to be the only live music bar on the beach.

Running from June 6-8 this year, acts include Busted, Jess Glynne and Pixie Lott.

Tourists have raved about the Watering Hole, whose beer ‘garden' is on the beach.

One person said on TikTok: “Best bar in the world.”

And the pub has even taken on a nearby youth hostel after it went on the market.

TheWatering Hole hasannounced ithastaken over the lease for Perranporth YHA after itunexpectedlycame up for sale last year.

It has now been renamed Droskyn Lookout with a huge revamp of the building.

Along with affordable accommodation, a wellness hubs is being created with a cafe, hot tubs and saunas.

The pub said on social media: “Extremely excited to announce that we will be bringing the Perranporth youth hostel alive & transforming it into the Droskyn Lookout just in time for summer.

“We are buzzing to be transforming and developing this awesome space keeping the youth hostel the same, providing affordable and enjoyable accommodation.”
