Ukraine will not recognise US military aid as loans – Zelenskyy

Published on March 28, 2025 at 08:12 PM

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that his country will not recognise previously approved military aid from the United States as loans that require repayment.

This comes as the president confirmed on Friday that Kyiv had received a new draft minerals deal from the US.

Speaking at a press conference, Zelenskyy also said that Ukraine would be willing to engage in talks with any representative from the Russian side, except President Vladimir Putin.

The Ukrainian leader added that his country would not accept any deal that posed a threat to its integration with the European Union.

Confirming the receipt of the US proposal, Zelenskyy stated: “I would like to note that officially, and this is important, the Ukrainian side—namely the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and my office—today, by a note, we officially received the US proposals.”

DAILY POST reports that a planned deal on extracting key minerals in Ukraine with the US failed to materialise last month following a televised clash between Trump and Zelenskyy.

Trump stated in a White House address last week that the US would “very shortly” sign a pact with Ukraine.
